RECREATIONAL SCUBA DIVING EQUIPMENT PAGES: BUOYANCY COMPENSATOR DEVICES

HISTORY OF THE BC | THE PHYSICS BEHIND HOW A BC WORKS |

STYLES OF BC'S | SELECTING A BC | PROPER CARE FOR YOUR BC

Buoyancy Compensator Devices, also known as BC's or BCD's enable a scuba diver at any depth to control their buoyancy in the water column.  Every year BC's change in order to satisfy the consumer's needs for increased safety, better durability, stream lining, easier adaptability, and of course comfort.

At the surface BC's should be fully inflated, this helps reduce a diver's fatigue while surface swimming to the ultimate descent destination.  When making a descent, adding a little bit of air while making a particularly deep descent can help a diver compensate for their wet suit compression which acts to increase the rate of descent.
