FAMILY CLINIDAE

 Common Name:  Giant Kelpfish

 Genus and Species:   Heterostichus rostratus

*Distinctive Features:  These fish very closesly resemble the blades of the Giant Kelp and the foliage beneath the canopy of this kelp.

*Distribution: These fish can be found from as far down south as Baja California to Northern California. 

*Behavior:  These fish blend in amongst the leaves of the kelp and have evolved to mimic the back and forth swaying of the kelp in surge and currents.

*Habitat:  As the name implies these fish are common amongst the fronds of the Giant Kelp in 18 to 70 feet of water.

*Fun Facts: None yet.

*Permits and Regulations:  Local collecting rules and regulations apply.
