CAL COAST SCUBA INSTRUCTION
You probably did not realize, it but sometime in your diving career you performed a rescue. Rescues happen all the time but usually go unnoticed; often times divers do not even realize they have performed one. Rescues can be as simple as attaching your buddies low pressure power inflator hose to the low pressure inflator, or can be much, much, much more severe. Diving has a great track record when it comes to the ratio of certified divers and those who are involved in accidents every year. But in the event a diving accident does occur how confident do you feel in providing assistance to your dive buddy? How sure are you that your own diving habits are not increasing your risk of being involved in a dive accident? Handling dive emergencies are tricky, and no amount of training will ever be comprehensive enough to handle every single situation. However the Rescue Diver Course will give you the confidence you will need in the unlikely event a diving accident does occur.
The PADI Rescue Diver will expand your knowledge and experience beyond purely recreational level because you'll learn to look beyond yourself and consider the safety and well being of other divers. Although this course is serious, it is an enjoyable way to build your confidence.

STANDARD SCHEDULE
OF EVENTS
Orientation – On orientation night we will discuss the topics that we will cover in the course as well as go over tips on how to select your gear for this course. You will need to purchase all of your required gear before the weekend events begin. Please note all fees are due on this date as well as your filled out medical form.
Class 1- Material
from the book will be covered. Come
with questions from the reading and knowledge reviews for Chapters 1 and 2
completed.
Pool 1 – We will
spend plenty of time in the pool to give you an opportunity to attempt and
feel proficient in your ability to perform a save during this time.
Just like everything else in diving, good rescue techniques are only
established through proper repetition. The
first portion of the pool will be conducted as a scuba tune up in order to
help you recognize the common problems that occur with gear as well as brush
up on your 20 basic skills you learned as an Open Water Diver.
Attendance is mandatory. The
second portion of the pool will focus on rescue skills you will need to feel
confident about in a real life emergency.
Again additional time is spent helping you develop strategies for
coping with different situations.
Class 3 - The
remaining modules will be completed and the final will be taken at the
conclusion of the class period. All
knowledge reviews will be reviewed and collected before the final.
BEACH 1 & 2 –
All rescue scenarios will be played out on both of these days.
Each diver will have an opportunity being the victim, the accident site
coordinator, the spotter, and the rescuer.
By acting out each role you will have 4 times the exposure on how to
carry out a rescue in real life situations.
Beaches and conditions will be chosen that add realism and challenge to
the course without pushing the limits of what is safe.
